Who They Are

The Jade Volunteers are a group of caring people who believe in the The Jade Foundation goals and objectives. Some of us are parents of children with special needs. Others are simply Minnesotans interested in the physical, mental, and emotional welfare of our state's children. The Jade Volunteers are a dedicated group that strives to make a tremendous difference for children with special needs in our hometowns and throughout Minnesota as a whole.

What They Do

As Jade Volunteers, we are the "foot soldiers" of The Jade Foundation. We help out at fundraising events that have been planned by the Foundation, or the Group Officers. We look for ways to raise funds and suggest them to the Foundation Board. We make the Foundation Board aware of organizations or individuals who need help in our region of Minnesota. We work on special projects to further the goals of The Jade Foundation that benefit families and children in need in our state.

Some examples of what we have done include:

·         Responding to phone messages left on our toll-free phone line, in which callers asked about the Jade Foundation’s services;

·         staffing tables to hand out Jade Foundation brochures and sell t-shirts and hats with our logo at a Twins game;

  • assisting with a silent auction held as part of a benefit for us at the Prom Center in Oakdale;
  • gathering contact information for organizations that serve children and families with special needs in MN, for inclusion on our Helpful Links page and in the Minnesota Online Special Needs Directory, our "sister" website;
  • following up with our grant recipient organizations to see how they used their Jade Foundation grants, and reporting this information to the Foundation Board;
  • collecting pledges from sponsors and walking in the Headwaters Fund's Walk for Justice.

Requirements

Membership requirements for The Jade Volunteers are few and simple. It's free to anyone. Our basic requirements are  that  you must be (a) a MN resident over the age of 18, or have parental approval if you are under 18; and (b) genuinely interested in actively working to further the mission and goals of the Jade Foundation. We encourage entire families to join. We want everyone to have the opportunity to spread joy to kids across Minnesota

Out of necessity, we have adopted a few guidelines that we strictly adhere to for obvious reasons:

First of all, it is imperative that no member of the Jade Volunteers presume to speak for or represent The Jade Foundation  non-profit corporation as a whole. Decisions about funding, commitments to people or organizations, media statements, and the daily business of The Jade Foundation are the responsibility of the Board of Directors and their directed operatives.

 Individual members ARE expected to be good public ambassadors for The Jade Foundation and its mission and goals, meaning that we accurately and positively explain The Jade Foundation's work to the public. Once again, however, we NEVER make commitments of any kind on behalf of the Board of Directors without their explicit permission.

Secondly, we are strictly apolitical. We have no group attachment to any political party. None of our decisions are influenced by, or mandated by sources outside our own membership or The Jade Foundation Board members. Though former Governor Ventura of MN strongly supports our work and has greatly contributed to our well-being, he has NO decision-making power regarding activities of The Jade Foundation or the Jade Volunteers. Membership is not a back door to political access of any kind. (Nor is it a point of access to former Governor and Mrs. Ventura and their family).

Thirdly, we do not attempt to sell products or services from our own private business interests to other members.

Fourth, our focus  is limited to children (and their families) with special needs in MN. Though we recognize the importance of helping any person in need, we are not a doorway to espouse other causes.

Finally, we are not a "do-nothing" group. Expressing ideas in an email is easy, but making the ideas a reality is our specialty.  We take pride in the fact that our desire to help quickly gets translated into action. Like almost everyone in this world we lead busy lives, but we still do our best to attend volunteer meetings and events, and  follow through on commitments.  And we are dedicated to having fun while doing our work! We want to be there for the families and children in MN who really need a smile today.

How to Join

At this time, we have enough volunteers to meet our needs, but whenever we need more volunteers, we will post it here, so watch this space! If you would like us to have your contact information in order to notify you when we might need your help, you may send an email describing yourself and any immediate family members who wish to join. Tell us why you are interested in The Jade Volunteers, and what kind of projects you might be interested in. Include your MN hometown, your email address if you have one, and a daytime phone number. Send it to our Volunteer Coordinator Jenzi Silverman . She will get back to you.

 We hope you recognize this is not meant as intrusion, but as a way to determine who is truly interested in helping us, and to protect against those who have secondary motives for joining.
We assure you that we respect and will safeguard your privacy absolutely. Any personal information garnered never leaves our files without your permission, and we do not share your information with other organizations.
